Free Motion Quilting Video: Feathered Flower

I did a little free motion quilting practice yesterday on a quilt sandwich left over from last week's class. I went ahead and video'd some of it. Here's the first one with a feathered flower.

This feather can be used small for a filler or made much larger and used as an all-over design.

I noticed yesterday that I got a bunch of subscribers to my Youtube channel all of a sudden. I have absolutely no idea why. Maybe somebody shared it on a site? It could be dumb luck, but I'd love to know if there's somebody I could thank!

  2. Yep, someone did mention your blog and videos; that's how I found you. Don't ask me who it was but if you find out and thank them, thank them from me, too! I'm loving your videos and really like that you've given me the opportunity to quilt slowly. Honest, most of the time I hear people say they "put metal to the pedal" (go as fast as they can). I always loose control that way. I'll keep watching if you keep making your videos. :)

    1. Thank you so much for telling me that! I love the response I’ve been getting to the videos, even if I feel silly making them! (Heard around my house, “Quiet! Mom’s talking to her sewing machine again”)

As far as control, I love the control I have when quilting slow and small. I’ve tried a longarm a few times and my biggest complaint (besides price and space) is that it feels like I have no control. We all have to find what works for us.

  3. I watched you quilting with the solid metal round foot and I can't finger out how you can see where you are going to quilt next. In making the curves I can't see how you can tell when to pivot so as not to go over parts of the motif already quilted. Help!

    1. I'm just used to that foot (ruler toe) so I can judge where I am. I was also doing some ruler work so I used that foot. I'll re shoot with an open toe soon.

  4. I forgot to mention - on Dec 22nd I referenced your videos in this blog post -
http://qg-yr.blogspot.ca/2013/12/sunday-sticky-notes.html. I maintain the blog for our guild Yorkshire Quilter's Guild of Toronto. As we don't have a high readership, I doubt the referenced post resulted in your new followers but maybe one or two of our readers found their way to your great site.
