Circular Sewing Attachment

There are days when I feel like I'm running around in circles, but today I was stitching in circles!

circle maker

This is the Janome circular sewing attachment. It's kinda like a very fancy thumbtack, but much better. It causes the fabric to rotate in a circle as the machine stitches. The pin travels up and down a ruler-like arm to easily make a series of circles around the center of a circle. Snaps right into the bobbin cover area to secure the attachment.

I made this circle sampler of sorts on some natural linen with fusible fleece underneath. I think it's destined to be a wall hanging at Sew Simple. I can see using this attachment to make some nifty contemporary/modern home decor.

I've got a few other ideas to try with it too! Now if I can just keep from getting sucked too far into my newest book, Written in My Own Heart's Blood by Diana Gabaldon. So good. I've given myself permission to read for fun after way too much reading of non-fiction.

  1. Very cool sampler! Could that circular attachement be used with the accufeed walking foot set up? (For, say, circular quilting?)

    1. It could! However it would have to be table topper size or a quilt as you go project as it needs free movement through the harp of your machine to keep the nice round shape.

Also, a walking foot or the accufeed system shouldn’t be used with decorative stitches, but regular straight stitch is fine. (they’re not designed to go backwards, though I have done it before….. ;-)

  2. I've finished parts one and two of the book. Don't want to read it too quickly, as it will be years and years before the next.

    1. There's a thought I should remember when I'm tempted to read too late at night!

  5. I have some sort of circular attachment for my machine (baby lock symphony) but I'm clueless as to how to use it! Looks fun though!

  6. Your sampler looks great! I had just read on the web about those kind of attachments a few months ago but didn't know that Janome had one. Looks like I may have to check in with SMP again!

    1. Thanks! It was a lot of fun. My daughter helped pick out a lot of decorative stitches too. I showed the attachment and my sample to a class on decorative stitches and one of the gals said: “Ring me up! I gotta have it!”

  9. I have a circular thingy for my Brother Lucy but I haven't taken it out of the package yet. Now I want to. Now! Today! Hopefully I can soon and will see if it will do those cool designs too.
