The Bernina representative told me it will be available in April. I got this sneak peek at it at the show as they had the long arm there. It's a nicely done foot, smooth and round with the desired 1/4 inch from the needle to the outside edge. It also has a small cutout for better visibility in front of the needle.
The interest in using rulers and templates with free motion quilting on a domestic sewing machine was incredible! Of course the need for a foot was a bit of a disappointment when I had all of those nifty templates at the ready from Top Anchor Quilting Tools. Especially for those who have non-Janome machines. I made sure to tell folks to check out the Westalee foot or to see if their machine is compatible with the Janome ruler foot and to pester their dealers for a ruler foot. I will have reviews of the final version of the Westalee foot sometime this week.
A Brother dealer made sure to come down and ask about buying the templates for her shop. She said all of her employees at the show kept coming down to our booth to look at the templates. She also said the Janome Ruler Foot combination (Janome Convertible Free Motion Quilt Foot Set (In the appropriate high

) worked on their Brother machines.I was so happy to meet several blog readers at the show! Thanks for coming by and saying "hi". So nice to put some faces to your names. Especially one who gave me a hug and some well-timed words of praise when I was visiting the Janome booth! (That was awesome!)
Now I must go put my house back in order. Seems like while the cat was away, the mice played, while papa bear did some sanding in the house and there's a lovely layer of dust.....
Looking forward to hearing all about the show, that is if you can get out from under the dust, LOL!!

ReplyDeleteOmigosh, Amy, what WONDERFUL news! The last I'd heard was that Bernina had said that the ruler foot didn't fit the domestic machines, so this is GREAT! :D
ReplyDeleteSanding in the house? Does your husband do that, too? My husband was too lazy to take down the drapery panels in the kitchen when he started remodeling and he was just aghast when he found out how much the dry cleaner charged to clean all the sawdust off the drapes when he was finished! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes! Birds of a feather, these fellas of ours. The stuff took a couple of days to come out of the air too! Dusted several surfaces more than once.

I knew that was you Pat! But I didn't want to name names without permission. The awesome thing is, that Janome doesn't "have" me, but I sure do enough free tooting of their horn that they really ought to get me! Such perfect timing!

ReplyDeleteYes it will! Nicely designed foot. Lacks the rounded bottom of the Janome ruler foot that helps it glide over the quilt so smoothly, but that's not much of an issue.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny that when I first started reading your blog, I was lusting after that free motion couching foot Bernina had. The Janome version finally came out a few years later, but not as good as the Bernina one or the one I adapted.

DeleteIt was great to meet you, Amy, and have you demo the dahlia ruler - can't wait to try it. I can't believe Bernina said their longarm foot will work on the domestic - they told me it wouldn't, and sold me the #9 foot that I could have my son solder a washer to. I'll hold off on the soldering until I see the new foot. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteIt was so fun to meet folks at the show! Make sure you pester your dealer so they get the foot when it comes out. It takes a while for these new things to percolate down to the dealers. I just had an email from a reader who had checked with Bernina Headquarters at the beginning of the year and they didn't know about it then.
