Tunic Challenge: Week 2

It's crunch time with the tunic challenge between Leah Day and myself. This is week 2 and it's probably the most crucial....fitting the muslin. AKA tweaking the pattern and really wishing that I was eating less and exercising more. Leah's got her tunic muslin all set and is looking fabulous. Take a look at Leah's blog and see.

The first attempt.

Better....

I shot another video for this week's deadline and honestly? It's not going on the YouTube channel. I'm all about being honest and real online, but a girl has her limits of just how far she needs to show herself!

The audio quality isn't all that great, so you may need to turn the volume up.

Practicing my runway walk....

I can't believe I put all this up here. Must be I'm getting to that age where I don't give a flip what others think about me. Or it's just another late night and I'm getting slap happy.

I haven't truly met our challenge deadline as I still need to work on the sleeves, placket, and give it a few more tweaks. What will next week bring?

  1. You did a full bust adjustment, yes? That's the first thing I saw needed in the first picture. :)

looking good tho! watch out Tim Gunn!

    1. Tim Gunn? I’m out of touch and don’t get the reference. Enlighten me please. :-)

I hacked my own version of a full bust adjustment because of the deadline to post, but I’ll be redoing it again before cutting my real fabric. There’s a rebellious part of me that says I shouldn’t need a “full” bust adjustment as my cup size is smaller than the typical gal my size.

  2. I think you look awesome! I just read a great book - On Living by Kerry Egan - it's about a hospice chaplain and the stories she's told by people near death. One of my favorite chapters in the book is about loving the body you have. This woman encountered so many people who had hated their bodies their whole lives, but then at the end, wished more than anything to have more time in their bodies and to be able to work and feel the way they did when they were younger. I know this is a push outside your comfort zone, and Amy, I think it's terrific. Love the body you got because you only have one!

    1. Thanks Leah. I totally would not have gotten this far on the tunic without our challenge.

  4. Amy, you look fabulous! I admire your passion and celebrate your courage. A quote from a freshman class I'm teaching has become my mantra this week: "Don't strive to be fearless. Strive to be dauntless." You are dauntless!

    1. OOh! I love it. Dauntless, that's me. I'm actually quite fearful naturally, but I'm working on it. I even have a note to myself on the wall that reads, "I will not make my decisions based on fear."

  5. You are off to a great start. I think you need to lower that neckline a bit before you do the placket.

  6. You are adorable and the tunic is turning out great! I am seriously considering jumping in, but I have quilts to quilt ant quilting on my finished tops is my current focus. I have both yours and Natalia's classes in my craftsy list and have watched them a few times...now time for the practicing!

  7. I'm thinking you are both brave. This tunic looks like a great way to learn all about modifying a pattern. Look'n good!

  9. I love it, my two fav bloggers in one place! The tunic looks good once you moved past the first white one. I know a tunic is longer than a shirt, but both of you had near dresses on your first fitting. You inspired me to get a pattern to make some clothing like I used to.
Tim Gunn = Project Runway where aspiring desingers compete for a big prize that involves doing a runway show, magazine, etc. He is the mentor to the designers.
I admire your courage 'putting it all out there', I hate seeing pics of myself and have so few that when my son was little I would ask my husband to remind him that I was there when he was a baby.
