A Quick Peek into Sew Simple of Lynchburg

Happy Sunday! I love Sundays lately. A little later time to wake up, church service, extra time with the family and no going to my shop. Yes, I am happy to not go to my shop. All work and no play and all that jazz. Six days a week is plenty.

But I do love it. We're still seeking a routine and definitely working too late each night, but things are starting to come together. I shot this video below a few weeks ago and wasn't sure I'd post it since it features me, but I got over myself and decided to post it. Nothing fancy and the shop is a diamond in the rough, but it's come a long way and is starting to feel like my own place.

It's not much, but it's a great opportunity to serve the sewing community in my area and have a place for me to work as well as my husband.  He's been working on machines and they come in the door as fast as we get them out! This is a total blessing because his job has been rather shaky for quite some time and as we got going with the shop, his boss's business pretty much shut down!

Big hugs to you and I better sign off before six days become seven!

  1. Hi Amy, just wanted to let you know a couple of things, 1st off in my email it immediately said I couldn't access your video so I just jumped to the bottom and clicked on your site and it brought me to the same page but I guess a different area(???) So I was able to watch the video (happy dance). 2nd I love your shop and personally I love the old wallpaper (maybe because I'm old) but it really speaks to me. I'm so happy to watch you start on your journey from scratch of a new shop as well as a repair shop that is indeed needed everywhere (there is only 1 repair place here in Corpus Christi) I have a Janome 6600 that I'm in love with and tickled that this is the brand you have chosen to carry. The 1 repair shop here that I spoke of is also a Janome dealer thankfully, but when I am there getting repairs on all other makes (my Janome hasn't needed any) I love to look at Janome accessories but also fabrics so I think it would be beneficial to carry some fabrics as well as a lot of batting from packages to yardage off rolls. But it is your new adventure not mine, I can only tell you what I look at while waiting for my turn to come up. I wish you nothing but the best and look forward to every post you do.

  3. Amy, The shop looks 1 million times better. And it is truly taking on your personality. I'm so glad you have the big quilt from your class featured on the wall. It is absolutely beautiful. I'm so glad also that your husband has found a place in your new business. Teamwork! I'm sure everyone will be very happy that they can get their machines fixed and learn new things at your shop. Will you be holding classes there? How I would love to book a vacation to come down and take a couple of classes. Thank you for taking us all along on this journey with you. I am wishing you all the success in the world. I'm so glad you're taking some time for yourself also. I know it's been difficult to find that time but I hope now you will be able to have time to yourself just for balance. Everything is looking great including yourself. Enjoy every minute of this journey.

  7. HI Amy! I love your video! I feel like we could be great friends. You are living a dream I have too-to set up a shop with your hubby and work together everyday. If I were closer I would VOLUNTEER in your shop. Good luck with this new adventure, but don't work too hard!

  8. Hi Amy, Your shop is starting to look more organized. It's really nice that you were able to take over a business that was already there. Your dedication in what you do is what will make it a great business. It's also nice that your husband is able to work there too. I will pray that your business grows steadily and that you are at peace with what you are doing. Just don't work too hard. Enjoy life. Good luck. Mary in Tennessee

  10. Love the shop. Do you know when they are going to get the quilting hoop released for the 500e. I just finished a quilt using this machine and I love how it quilts. The hoop would make it simpler.

  11. Hi Amy. We are going to be in Virginia next week for our annual vacation week at Massanutten. I grew up in Virginia but now live in Ohio. I would love to visit your shop but I don't think there will be enough time this trip. Maybe next year. I have taken one of your Craftsy classes and am enjoying working with rulers. Thanks for the very helpful class. Eunice Donges ecdonges@gmail.com

  13. Amy, you don't need those Craftsy hair and makeup people -- you are perfect just the way you are! I'm glad you didn't listen to the guy at Lowe's. We have painted over old wallpaper and it was just fine. Bubbled up a little while the paint was wet, which made me nervous, but then it dried nice and flat and smooth and no one is the wiser. When you have inherited old wallpaper that someone else put up, you have no way of knowing whether they did it the "right" way using primer and if not, you can have chunks of drywall coming off when you try to remove paper that wants to stay there until the NEXT millennium! Good luck with your shop, and GOOD FOR YOU!
